Another view of the Deer Park Hotel...

Another image of the Deer Park. It is my understanding that post cards of this era were hand-colored, so it's possible that the hotel may have had different wall/roof colors than what is depicted on this card.

Parker's Dam...

My family and I were up at Deer Park a few weeks ago, and I took some pics while were we walking around the property...there isn't much left to suggest that an elegant hotel once graced the grounds...

There is an old dam that I have mentioned before Pemigewasset Dam . I have since found out that the name is Parker's Dam, and it's existed for quite some time. It dates back to the time when there were multiple logging mills in the area. The dam is located to the left of the Deer Park property and is a great place to go to fish (or have a cold beer on a hot day). This is how the dam looks now.

Views from the tower...

Ever wonder what the view was like from one of the hotel towers?

Here is a postcard image from when the hotel was "new". I'd have to guess the late 1880's or so...

In the upper left view shows a corner of the "ell" of the hotel, which doubled capacity and was constructed a year after the hotel opened in 1887. Also shows the property to the rear of the hotel where the condos, rec center and pond now are. The bottom left view shows the area where the railroad station stood. (Now Lafayette Dinner Train and newly built railroad station)

The top right view shows the view towards Lincoln and bottom right view shows the village of North Woodstock.

Did you know?...

Did you know how the Deer Park Hotel got it's name? Back in 1887 when the hotel was built, there was an enclosed area on the hotel grounds where tame deer were kept for the enjoyment of hotel guests.

Postcard image of the Deer Park...

There were many different Deer Park Hotel postcards produced over the years...here is another that I found...with a view from the right side of the building. I just love the veranda - it is my understanding that it wrapped around the entire hotel...

Deer Park postmark...

It is my understanding that many White Mountain hotels at the turn of the century had their own post offices...here is the Deer Park postmark that is affixed to a postcard.

Franconia Mountains from North Woodstock...

Yet another postcard image of Franconia Notch with the Deer Park Hotel in the foreground. It's interesting to look at the many postcards made over the years and note the different paint and roof colors of the old hotel.

Deer Park Hotel and Stage...

Here is another turn of the century postcard image of the Deer Park Hotel with a stagecoach in front. The horses and stagecoach look to be in the approximate area where Routes 93 & 112 run through now...my, how things change over time...

Speaking of views...

Here is a postcard image of the view from the Mountain View House that used to sit on the hill across from the Baptist Church in North Woodstock. If you look in the upper left - there is the Deer Park! The building to the right is the old schoolhouse (which still exists as condominiums) and is on the right on Rte 112, (heading east) before the bridge that takes you to the village of North Woodstock...

and here is an old image of the schoolhouse and the stone bridge.

Deer Park Hotel with mountains...

A nice old postcard image of the Deer Park Hotel with mountains in the background...

Imagine what how lovely the view was from one of those towers?

Old Deer Park Hotel Pic...

Here is a nice mountain view with the Deer Park Hotel in the background. If I had to take a guess as to where this photo was taken, I would say probably in the vicinity of Parker's Ledge...

Pemigewasset Dam

Here is an old image of the dam that still exists on the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River that runs to the left of the Deer Park property. My guess is the building in the upper right hand corner may have been a caretaker's cottage or servant's quarters. The condo clubhouse sits in the approximate location now.

North Woodstock fire maps...

Click on the link below and look at the 2nd page to see fire maps of North Woodstock that show the Deer Park Hotel. One of the hydrants shown on the plan still exists on Deer Park property...if you take a good look at the plan, many of the buildings shown still exist in North Woodstock...
